On December 18th, we had a fabulous time at the Simply Speaking Toastmasters' holiday party hosted by Billie Jo Roach, our VP of Public Relations. Our event are well planned with the purpose of team building and getting to know all of our members in a relaxed setting, which is not as possible to do in a regular meeting. Here are some of the awesome pix. Enjoy!
The amazing maestro Connie tickling the ivories!
Club member Mario Mongalo's child may become a future toastmaster!
The ever so dazzling Billie Jo and Mario mingling during the party.
I sure hope Cybele can keep Alan from eating up all of the grub.
Mario's beautiful family!
Terrific Tom, Excellent Ed and the ever Dynamic David!
Magnificent Margaret as a class act during the party game.
Lesley, Mrs. Marrs and the gang mingling and having fun.
We just love hanging out...won't you join us?
Tom Marrs and his wonderful wife enjoying everyone's company.
The Browns (not related to me) are all together.
"What in the world is this thing?" said George.
Deborah, Marcy and Tom's wife sharing a laugh!
Dazzling Darryle, Bountiful Billie Jo and Amazing Alan turning the party out.
Billie Jo, Marcy, Felicia, Alan and David is one the other team for the games. (They won because they probably cheated...I'm just sayin'. LOL!)

Alan's favorite Christmas movie is Miracle on 34th Street. Cuz it talks about Santa Claus being everywhere in a way. And it makes me cry. It touches my fem side. (His words, not mine people! CA) I really love the scene where the post office brings all the letters into the court room. It's about human connection.
favorite Christmas movie
My favorite Christmas movie is.....ELF!
The reason I love this movie so much is that my daughter and I have the same bizarre sense of humor and we love to watch the innocence of Will Farrell portraying himself as a large but boyish elf. Since he grows up thinking he is an elf, he has no other paradigm or frame of reference when he travels to New York to find his dad. Will pulls off the immature and obnoxiousness nature of a boy in the same fashion Tom Hanks did in the movie "Big." Some of our favorite scenes are when "Elf" (Buddy) gets hit by a taxi cab because he runs across the street without looking and instead of getting upset with the cab driver he profusely apologizes for getting hit. "Sorry! Sorry! Sorry!" It's great physical comedy. Another scene we love is when he decides to answer his father's business phone and he says "So and So Publishing, what's your favorite color?" Shouldn't we all inquire about each other's favorite color? My favorite color use to be fire-y red, but I've mellowed a bit with age so I like a little blue as well, so now my favorite color is purple because that's what you get when you mix red and blue! You can tell a lot about a person if you know their favorite color!! What's your's??
Another great line: "I like smiling, smiling is my favorite!" ME TOO!

Simply Speaking's mighty MENTORS! We want YOU!
With all of the new members accepted in Simply Speaking recently, it calls for the demand for more mentors. As I visited all of my area clubs and clubs abroad, I found that 99% of them have no structured and solid mentoring program to aid in the development and retention of new members, which is alarming. Many of these clubs are struggling with retention and attendance as a result, but YOU can help stop the downward trend!
Simply Speaking's Vice President of Education Tom Marrs and I have teamed up to launch the club's mentoring program district-wide and eventually to the entire Toastmasters organization. There is no program like ours in the organization, it's easy to follow and easy to use in training others so that "each one, teach one".
For this endeavor to be successful, we need people like you to step up and become a mighty mentor! If you have been an active member for nearly a year, working toward your goals as a communicator and leader and want to see others in our clubs become successful, the intangible rewards of making a difference in others are priceless. When a fellow toastmaster is successful, we're all successful! We are calling on your involvement, your "toastimonial" on its impact and feedback on how we can continually make the mentoring program better.
Simply Speaking is on the verge to take center stage in the standard of excellence for raising up earth's mightiest toastmasters and that includes YOU! Contact Tom Marrs today and tell him you want to become a part of the Simply Speaking POWER SURGE in the days to come by becoming a mighty mentor! See you at the top!

Amazing Area Contest - Simply Speaking's David Bounds Takes the GOLD!
It gives me great pleasure to recognize the efforts of David Bounds with his amazing win in the D6 Area Humorous Speech Contest. As always, the competition was great and Simply Speaking's Cybele Antonow (competing with Aurorators) was a very close second. This speaks volumes of the amazing talent at Simply Speaking and we encourage more members to compete in the years to come. Lois Kamga-Ngameni won third place in the D6 Area Evaluation Contest for which he should also be proud as the competition was stiff in that contest as well.
David Bounds will go on to the Denver Division Contest and when he when he wins, he will go on to the District Championship! We wish him the very best as his speech was not only solid with a message, but also was very funny! His talent will take him to the big show and he will not leave the Division and District championships empty handed! Congrats, David!!
